Allergan Acquisition of ZELTIQ: What it Means for You

Allergan plc (NYSE: AGN), a leading global pharmaceutical company, acquired ZELTIQ back last April in 2017. This also means that Allergan acquired ZELTIQ’s CoolSculpting technology. So, what does this mean?

Actually, it doesn’t change anything about CoolSculpting as a procedure. In fact, Allergan’s acquisition of ZELTIQ and CoolSculpting is bringing more benefits to those interested in CoolSculpting or who regularly have their CoolSculpting treatments.

Allergan Acquisition of ZELTIQ & CoolSculpting

After the completion of ZELTIQ, body contouring is now the third pillar in Allergan’s global aesthetics portfolio next to facial aesthetics and plastic surgery and regenerative medicine businesses. The Chief Commercial Officer of Allergan, Bill Meury, stated, “CoolSculpting gives Allergan the most comprehensive and dynamic portfolio of products for plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and other aesthetic providers across the globe.”

In the past few years, there has been a growing demand from patients for less invasive treatments for pockets of fat. CoolSculpting does just that, and there’s been a strong demand for the procedure because of its reliability. It’s exciting to see CoolSculpting added to Allergan’s broad product offering, and we’re already starting to see the expanding opportunity for body contouring.

With programs in place through Allergan like their Open Science and Brilliant Distinctions, patients and customers of ZELTIQ will be able to benefit from the rewards that come with these programs. Hopefully, new and innovative technology will come with CoolSculpting – whether it’s keeping up with the demand or improving the machinery. Brilliant Distinctions will help you save money on CoolSculpting and other Allergan procedures and products that you love.

About ZELTIQ & CoolSculpting

ZELTIQ is a public company located in Pleasanton, California. They have been marketing and licensing the CoolSculpting cryolipolysis procedure since its approval by the FDA in 2010. They hold the largest market share for non-invasive fat reduction procedures. Founded in 2005, the company was first named the Juniper Medical Systems, but they changed to ZELTIQ in 2007. In 2011, they went publish with the company after performing the correct amount of testing and gathering the right funding for CoolSculpting.

The ZELTIQ CoolSculpting procedure was first approved for the flanks and sides in 2010 by the FDA in the United States. By 2011, it was already approved in 46 other countries. The FDA then approved the treatment of the stomach through CoolSculpting in 2012. After a new model was made to treat difficult to reach areas like the thighs, the FDA also approved that model in 2014.
